The novel manages to explore human relationships and the universal way that there is often one partner more invested than the other.

“No Night Is Too Long” was made into a TV film in 2002, and was also really enjoyable but I have never heard anyone else rave about this book and I fear it languishes as one more “mystery story” in the back catalogues when in fact I propose it has far greater worth. This occasional series will look at my all time favourites- the books I wish everyone would read and enjoy. I am not talking about the Classics, many of them are wonderful but they bring with them such cachet it would be unfair to compare them to modern novels side by side. I have read an awful lot of books, so whilst I am not claiming to be an expert I can say which stood out for me, some really stay in the memory- rising head and shoulders above the rest.
